Sri Jinananda Children’s Home is recognized by the Government’s Social Services Dept., under no. 11/1/4/2036/89,
We started children shelter for war orphans in 1989, whose parents had died in the war area. We started the children’s home with seven boys who were ‘provided’ by the army and the local police. Since then the home has provided shelter and education for approximately 100 children, and it has secured employment for its ‘graduates’. All children in the care of the Home attend school in Wellawatte: Wellawatte College, and Lumbini College, whereas the aspiring monks attend the Wellawatte (Pirivena.)Temple School.
The Rev. Urumutte. Sugathananda Thero (Chairman) maintains a close contact with the principals of the lay schools, while he himself is the principal of the Wellawatte Temple School. In cooperation with Hindu, Christian and Muslim clergymen he also conducts programs in these, and other, schools to warn the children against the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. These anti-substance abuse programs are actively supported by the police and the grama sevaka’s (local heads of govt. administration) of the areas in which the schools are located.
Although the Government, either at a central or at a local level, is unable to provide financial support for the Children’s Home. The reasons why the Association is the ‘driving force’, now requests to provide funding, are to provide protection for, and to take care of poor orphaned children who have lost their parents & homes as a consequence of the war in the North & East. In the first place the financial requirements of the project to extend the buildings of the Children’s Home are too large to be able to fund these from the present sources of income on which the Children’s Home depends.
The Sri Jinananda Children’s Home does not employ any personnel: it relies on voluntary work of inhabitants of Wellawatte, Dehiwela, and Bambalapitiya, as well as on the work of its Director. The project aims at extending the buildings used to house the children (presently 100, aged 3 years and upward,), to provide furniture (beds, writing desks, cupboard space) so as to enable the children to sleep in more comfort without disturbing each other, and to duly to their school homework, and to improve the hygienic conditions in which the children live by, the upgrading of existing toilet and bathroom facilities. The Sri Jinananda Children’s Home will continue to receive and care for orphaned boys from the war zones, on recommendation from the Sri Lank an Army, local Government Agents, and other competent authorities. The number of children in the care of the Home is expected to rise, after the completion of the present project, to For the costs of feeding, clothing, providing school books, pens, etc., and medicines as & when required for the children in its care, the Association will continue to primarily rely on voluntary contributions, although contributions from other sources will, of course be welcome.

Grace and peace,
Children deserve to grow up safe, supported and loved for who they are. From the start, they need quality care and education.
You can help. As a person of faith, you can consider…
.
FIVE GOOD REASONS TO SUPPORT TO SRI JINANANDA CHILDREN'S HOME
Because you care about children – all God’s children.
Whether they live in rich or poor neighborhoods, today’s youth are at risk. Recent disturbing events are but a few examples of
the violence, neglect, abuse, drugs, gangs, hunger and poverty that threaten the well being of our children. We care about the
God’s children and, like you, we have a positive impact on their future.
Because you believe in quality care and education.
Never has the need been greater for high-quality, affordable and equitable care and education for young children. We work
with early childhood programs to implement standards of excellence. We address the total program, from governance,
administration and financial stability to mission, facilities and staff development.
Because you’re ready to take a stand against racism.
Fundamental to excellence in early childhood programs is respect for cultural, racial, religious, social, economic and lifestyle
differences among families.
Because you believe congregations have a leadership role to play.
Congregations that house child care and education programs need to be more.
Because you want to make a difference.
Established in 1989, Our Organization is expanding it’s reach and impact. But we can’t do it alone. To respond to increasing
requests for assistance from churches and early childhood programs throughout the country, we need your financial support.
Won’t you give to SRI JINANANDA CHILDREN'S HOME?
Together , we can make a difference for children.
